Volunteer

The food waste issue is pervasive and systemic, affecting households, restaurants, farms and low income populations. There is much that needs to be done. If you’re interested in addressing food waste other than in your own home, here are some actions you can take.

Join a gleaning activity to help farmers gather more of their harvest than what is commercially viable. This website is for a Jackson County group that deploys volunteers to help close the gaps in our food community.–https://thegleaningnetwork.org/about-us

The organizations listed in the Act – Donate section are also always looking for volunteers. Contact information is provided for each organization.

Share with your friends and neighbors about how we all can apply wisdom to this issue.

Utilize one of the many composting alternatives: build your own, use a service, team with neighbors

Support businesses and products that demonstrate sustainability in packaging and waste reduction practices.

Support local food producers by patronizing growers markets, Community Supported Agriculture agreements (CSA’s), at your usual grocery store, and at restaurants that feature locally sourced dishes.
